3rd arrondissement
The 3rd arrondissement, located on the Right Bank, is one of the 20 arrondissements of Paris. It is the second smallest in area after the 2nd arrondissement.
The 3rd arrondissement contains the northern more quiet part of the medieval district of Le Marais (while the 4th arrondissement contains the more lively southern part of Le Marais with notably the gay district of Paris). The oldest surviving private house of Paris, built in 1407, is located in the 3rd arrondissement, on rue de Montmorency.
Le Marais (meaning the marsh in French) is a district in Paris, traditionally a bourgeois area, but also well-known historically.
