The Chateau d'Yquem is an area of 133 hectares including 113 hectares of vineyards, 102 hectares exploited, south of Bordeaux in the Sauternes region, which produces a sweet white wine Prime classified grand cru. It is considered by many as the best wine of Sauternes. The wines are characterised by their complexity due to a significant amount of residual sugars and aromas made by the botrytis. A relatively high acidity helps offset the sweetness. Another characteristic for which chateau d'Yquem is known is its longevity. In good years a bottle will present its unique qualities after one or two decades in a cave, and with the care she will keep for a century or more, adding complexity.
